Riding The Coll Femenia

Nineteen kilometres of secondary road, asphalt end to end, that leave a town at forty-six metres and finish on a plateau at five hundred. Out of Pollença past the creu de na Cantona and the coffee stop the island’s riders have used for years, then five kilometres up the Vall d’en Marc between cultivated fields, olive, cypress lines and the gates of the possessions, with the Pont Romà standing seventy metres off the road. At the km-6 marker the valley runs out and the climbing starts in earnest: eight kilometres of named hairpins cut into pine and bare karst, the rock face on your shoulder where the road was blasted out of it and the barranc dropping away on the other side. Seven bridges in that stretch, none of them longer than eleven metres. Over the Coll Femenia the road stops climbing and the country changes completely — holm oak and pine, carritx, the clearings of the Lluc plateau — and the last four kilometres run past the picnic ground and the water at Menut, the only public water on the whole limb, to the turnoff for the monastery.

This point-to-point line covers 19 km, from Pollença toward Lluc — the Tramuntana’s north gate.

The route is read through settlement edges: narrow streets, rooflines, roundabouts, church towers, old road alignments, and the moment the built fabric releases the rider back into open country.

Relief, gradient, and how to pace it

This is serious vertical terrain. The road spans 514 m from bottom to top and accumulates 542 m of ascent, with sampled ramps reaching 8.7%. The profile makes the pacing decision visible before the first pedal stroke.

Ride the early gradients a shade below the effort you think you can hold. The broken rhythm rewards cadence changes and short, controlled pressure rather than repeated spikes above threshold.

Points to watch for

The best Mallorca routes are remembered as a sequence of places, not as a GPX line. These are the changes of scene that organise this ride.

  1. 01

    Pollença

The route rolls away from Pollença, giving you a few minutes to find cadence and read the road ahead.

  2. 02

Lluc — the Tramuntana’s north gate

Lluc — the Tramuntana’s north gate is one of the route’s defining changes of scene and a useful marker for pacing the ride.

  3. 03

    559 m high point

At 559 m high point, the elevation trace reaches its ceiling before the road releases the height it has earned.

Why this road works indoors

muntro does not flatten the Coll Femenia into a workout backdrop. The route’s bends, height, and junction order come from the road itself, while a compatible trainer reproduces the changing gradient under your pedals.

The point-to-point format gives the session a destination. There is no need to invent a finish when the real road already has one.
