Riding The Pla North
Twenty-six kilometres across the northern Pla, and not the flat you were promised: two real valleys, a 118 m range and the straightest kilometre this world has ever measured — 1,055 m that deviate zero metres from their own chord. Out of Inca over the motorway viaduct, down to the 65 m torrent floor, past the Costitx turn to Sineu, where the ring road is named for the four winds and five flour-mill towers stand within 119 m of the carriageway. Then the walled shelf to Lloret de Vistalegre — dry-stone standing at the white edge line, the creu des Pou above the seam — the drop to the Pont de Pina, the village of Pina, and the long climb onto the open 182 m ridge where the sky finally comes back.
This point-to-point line covers 26.3 km, from Inca toward Sineu toward Lloret toward Pina toward the Ma-15.
This is coastal Mallorca rather than a generic blue horizon: the road’s relationship with coves, cliffs, ports, stone retaining walls, and open water is what defines it.
Captured in muntro Relief, gradient, and how to pace it
The elevation trace is rolling rather than alpine, spanning 116 m from low point to high point. There is 273 m of total ascent, enough to reward measured pressure over the rises without turning the whole route into a survival exercise.
Ride the early gradients a shade below the effort you think you can hold. The broken rhythm rewards cadence changes and short, controlled pressure rather than repeated spikes above threshold.
Points to watch for
The best Mallorca routes are remembered as a sequence of places, not as a GPX line. These are the changes of scene that organise this ride.
- 01
Inca
The route rolls away from Inca, giving you a few minutes to find cadence and read the road ahead.
- 02
Sineu
Sineu is one of the route’s defining changes of scene and a useful marker for pacing the ride.
- 03
Lloret
Lloret is one of the route’s defining changes of scene and a useful marker for pacing the ride.
- 04
Pina
Pina is one of the route’s defining changes of scene and a useful marker for pacing the ride.
- 05
the Ma-15
the Ma-15 is one of the route’s defining changes of scene and a useful marker for pacing the ride.
Why this road works indoors
muntro does not flatten the Pla North into a workout backdrop. The route’s bends, height, and junction order come from the road itself, while a compatible trainer reproduces the changing gradient under your pedals.
The point-to-point format gives the session a destination. There is no need to invent a finish when the real road already has one.
