Riding Down to the Port

The Ma-11B, the road the tunnel replaced: north out of the arrival gate, then a left turn the law makes for you — the Ma-11 ahead disappears into the Mòla bore, which bans bicycles. What is left is the old valley floor, flat as nothing else in this world, a single-track lit tunnel barely wider than a car, and almost a kilometre of stone setts running down to the harbour.

The mapped road is 2.7 km each way. Muntro carries it to the turnaround and back, so the complete ride is 5.5 km with 21 m of climbing.

This is coastal Mallorca rather than a generic blue horizon: the road’s relationship with coves, cliffs, ports, stone retaining walls, and open water is what defines it.

Relief, gradient, and how to pace it

The profile is restrained by Mallorca standards: 10 m separates its lowest and highest points. The interest comes from rhythm, surface changes, exposed straights, and the way the road moves through the landscape rather than one headline climb.

Use the opening kilometres to find cadence and keep the power smooth. The route is ideal for endurance work, recovery riding, or simply exploring the island without a large climbing bill.

Points to watch for

The best Mallorca routes are remembered as a sequence of places, not as a GPX line. These are the changes of scene that organise this ride.

  1. 01

    Es Monument

The route leaves Sóller’s main arrival junction on the road the modern tunnel replaced.

  2. 02

    The old valley tunnel

A narrow, lit single-track bore keeps bicycles away from the forbidden main tunnel.

  3. 03

    Port de Sóller

Stone setts carry the final kilometre down to the natural harbour.

Why this road works indoors

muntro does not flatten Down to the Port into a workout backdrop. The route’s bends, height, and junction order come from the road itself, while a compatible trainer reproduces the changing gradient under your pedals.

The turnaround matters: you learn the road in one direction, then read every slope and landmark differently on the way back.
